V Japonsku tradične na tretí júlový pondelok pripadá štátny sviatok, Deň Mora, ktorý sa tu slávy od roku 1996. Tohto roku to pripadlo na 17. Júla. V tento deň Japonci zvyknú vzdávať vďaku moru a priať si prosperitu pre svoju krajina, ktorá je v mnohých ohľadoch závislá od mora. Rodiny si zvyknú zájsť na pláž, zaplávať si či venovať sa iným vodným radovánkam. Obľúbené sú tiež akvária, ktoré v tento sviatok mávajú nejakú špeciálnu akciu. Deň Mora pre značnú časť Japonska taktiež symbolizuje i koniec obdobia dažďov (cuju,梅雨).
